Today’s post spotlights Emily Mukami, who was recently recognized as achieving the top score on her final nursing examination in all of Kenya. Our connection is that she was an MBF scholarship recipient in one of MBF’s partner nursing schools. The Mary K Center for Global Nursing Development is so proud of her and grateful for what God has accomplished through her hard work.
Her own words say it all:
“ I, Emily Mukami, was a student in Clive Irvine College of Nursing in Chogoria, Kenya.
I did my Nursing Council of Kenya examination (NCK) in April 2018. I wish to pass my gratitude to MBF for their support during my training as I was a beneficiary of MBF. Through your support, I managed to complete my training and be the best student overall in the examination countrywide.
I owe my success to your support; you helped me realize my dream of being a nurse when I was financially desperate. Truly you have helped me believe the saying by actress Lupita Nyong’o,
‘Your dreams are valid no matter where you come from.’
I humbly request the foundation to support many other needy potential college students to help them unlock and realize their dreams. Clive Irvine College of Nursing Chogoria has modeled for me how to be a holistic nurse. It has world-class training resources and excellent teachers. I would recommend the college to anyone who wants to pursue a career in nursing.”
In our last post we wrote about how we’ve upgraded scholarship programs by placing top nursing students in rural clinics and hospitals – where they are needed the most. This is exactly what is happening with Emily, who now serves as a nurse at one of our partner hospitals in Kenya, Chogoria Hospital, where she was trained. She is making the difference by adding top quality knowledge to bring improved patient care to the partner hospital.
